Vitamin D is a term that refers to a group of five fat-soluble vitamins that are classified as secosteroids, with research suggesting vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol) being the most important form in humans. Since we produce much of our natural vitamin D transdermally (through the skin) via sunlight exposure, it is imperative that oral supplementation of vitamin D come in the form of D3.
Public Health England (PHE) have stated that everyone should consider taking a Vitamin D supplement through autumn and winter and those who do not get adequate amounts of sun exposure in spring/summer should also consider taking one all year.
